ICT equipment delivered to the Security Ministry to strengthen the country´
The Minister of Tourism, Allan Flores, gave the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) 15 motorcycles to be properly equipped to strengthen the work of the tourist police personnel in order to increase security for domestic and foreign tourists.
The ceremony, which took place in the parking lot of the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), also benefited from the presence of the Minister of Public Safety, Janina del Vecchio Ugalde; of the Director of the Tourist Police, Xinia Vasquez; Victor Ramirez, Head of the Service Economy and ICT and the officers who received the equipment that will help in the protection of Costa Rican citizenship.
This specialized police force, currently consisting of 267 leading companies operating throughout the country especially in major tourist areas such as Guanacaste, Puntarenas, Limon, San Jose, Alajuela, La Fortuna, Dominical and Carthage.
"This team and this effort is our partnership with foreign tourists who visit us and the national tourist enjoy our natural beauty, to assure a safe environment," he said at the ceremony Minister Flores.
Flores also noted that this investment is another of the initiatives currently undertaken by the ICT with government institutions "to strengthen our country as a tourist destination worldwide."
The Minister Flores announced that this week the full Board approved the expansion of ICT in the existing Agreement with the MOH to strengthen the efforts of both institutions and the creation of the "Tourism District delegations. The head of ICT also added that the institution in charge investing a total of 90 million colones in what would be the first draft of the "Tourism District Delegations" in Cieneguita Limon.
The total value of the investment made by the ICT for the delivery of the 15 motorcycles more than 60 thousand dollars. It is expected that vehicles equipped with beacons, sirens, helmets and uniforms for the respective officers, focus on the Central Pacific, Guanacaste Northern Caribbean Fortune and North and South.
The agreement between the SPM and the ICT investment has enabled over 150 million colones from the creation of the tourist police in 2006 and allows for this year is counted a total of 400 officers trained.
